What it measures

A stool test that uses quantitative PCR (DNA-based) to report on bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, commensal ("normal") bacteria, opportunistic bacteria, fungi/yeast and H. pylori, plus stool markers such as calprotectin, pancreatic elastase-1, secretory IgA, anti-gliadin IgA, β-glucuronidase, steatocrit and fecal occult blood, according to seller and lab descriptions. Optional add-ons offered by many sellers include zonulin.

Zonulin add-on: one peer-reviewed study (Scheffler et al., Frontiers in Endocrinology, 2018) found that a widely used commercial serum zonulin ELISA did not detect pre-haptoglobin 2 (the protein identified as zonulin) and instead recognized other proteins. That study examined a serum kit; it does not necessarily describe the stool assay used on GI-MAP. Source: https://doi.org/10.3389/fendo.2018.00022

GI-MAP Test FAQ

How much does a GI-MAP test cost?

On Oct 19, 2026, 8 posted prices from 8 sellers ranged from $320 to $499 including listed fees (median $438). The lowest price open to the public was $409 at Labs by Request. The lowest overall, $320 at Metro Center for Functional Medicine (MCFM), is limited to that clinic's own patients. The lab's own store, GI-MAP Test (official site), listed $497.

Why do GI-MAP prices vary so much?

Sellers bundle different things: some include a results review or consult, some charge separate physician or handling fees, and some are clinics selling at a patient price. The lab analysis itself is the same GI-MAP panel.

Is the zonulin add-on included?

Usually not. The prices on this page are for the standard GI-MAP unless the row notes otherwise.

What's included in the GI-MAP test price?

Each row is the seller's listing for the GI-MAP® (GI Microbial Assay Plus) (lab: Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory; specimen: Stool (at-home kit)). The Total column adds fees the seller lists on the product page: My Path Functional Medicine ($10 kit ordering/handling). Shipping, tax, blood draws and consultations are not included unless the row says so. Sellers whose listing mentions a results review or a review option: GI-MAP Test (official site), Vidal Coaching (see the Notes column).

Do you need a doctor's order for a GI-MAP test?

Usually not. 6 of 8 listings here are marked self-order: you can buy without bringing your own doctor's order. Some add a listed physician or handling fee, included in the Total. 2 are sold only to a clinic's existing patients. Check the 'Who can order' column.

Which states restrict ordering a GI-MAP test?

Our price check did not record a state restriction on these listings. State rules for consumer-ordered lab tests vary and sellers may block some states at checkout, so confirm on the seller's page.

Why do prices differ so much?

Sellers set their own prices for the same lab's kit and may bundle practitioner authorization, consultations, shipping or add-ons. The table shows the price and any separately listed fees as posted on each seller's public page on the date checked.

How current are these prices?

All prices were checked on Oct 19, 2026. Prices and availability (including state restrictions) change; confirm on the seller's page before ordering.
